Introduction - a 20 years long tool

The 'Reverse Transliterator' which you find in AAW (short for "Azhagi's Addins for MS Word") is not anything new. It has been existing since around 20 years or so itself (i.e. since 2002 or so itself). But, it has been existing in 'Classic Azhagi' (i.e. Old Azhagi, released in 2000) only, and not in Azhagi+ which was released in 2011. Now, the same tool has been enhanced and spruced up in various ways and provided in AAW. Those who are using Classic Azhagi's 'Reverse Transliterator' regularly shall start using this enhanced 'Reverse Transliterator' hereafter.

AAW's Reverse Transliterator (RT, for short). What does it do?

RT helps to convert Unicode Tamil text to Tanglish, in quick time. For e.g. if you have a Tamil content like "நீங்க எப்படி இருக்கீங்க?", RT helps to convert it into "neenga eppadi irukkeenga?" in a jiffy. For better understanding, kindly see the screenshot here.

Is there any other 'reverse transliterator' like the one found in AAW?

In 2002 or so, when RT was first released as part of 'Classic Azhagi', as far as I knew, it was Unique. May be it is still unique, even as of Nov 2022. I don't know. Only users have to let me know after using RT. But, one thing. I am cherishing some fond ideas to enhance this module to a very great degree, time-permitting. Once that gets fructified, I think RT will be truly Unique, features-wise/benefits-wise. Pray God that I get the required time.

Interested to know about the IMMENSE benefits of RT?

Reverse transliteration has helped some of Azhagi's users immensely. A few instances are mentioned below:

• What Azhagi's RT (as well as AT, DS and in fact the whole of 'Classic Azhagi') have done for generations of Tamil descendants in South Africa, to sustain their Tamil/Spiritual culture and tradition just cannot be expressed in words. Because of Azhagi (esp. RT, AT and DS), the current generation of Tamil children and youth (who can speak Tamil but not read Tamil) can easily sing Tamil devotional songs in temples and spiritual SatSangs by availing the transliterated Tamil text in English. Shri. Moon Moodley (resident of S.Africa and a respected Maths professor) who took great efforts in achieving and sustaining this process has exchanged several emails with me in this regard, since 2007 or so. An extract from one of his emails (dt. Jan 2011) hereunder. He has also met me in person at my home 3 or 4 times (whenever he was here in Chennai), last time being in 2017 (if I remember right) just in order to see me in person and express his deeply profound and hearty heartfelt heartfelt heartfelt gratitude to Azhagi in tons and tons and tons, for an hour or so. I will share extracts from some more emails of Shri. Moon Moodley in times to come.

• Very recently, in Nov 2022, (presumably)a reverend sister, wrote to me in Facebook Messenger referring to Classic Azhagi's RT as "Thank you, it is a great app".


• The MD of a company (one of Azhagi's users) was from the Northern part of India. Though he had learnt to speak Tamil, he was unable to read Tamil. But, he was interested to read all the official correspondences which took place in Tamil and also was very interested in reading Tamil literature (mainly Bharathi's poems) of interest to him. So, he needed all the text in Tamil to be delivered in transliterated English. What the employees did was to type out the text in MS-Word using Azhagi and generate the transliterated English in reverse and hand it over to their MD.


• Users of Azhagi who are astrologers and film scriptwriters also find this very effective, for certain needs of them. For instance, a Tamil film dialogue-writer had hundred pages of dialogues written in Tscii Tamil already. But, the actor who was chosen to deliver those dialogues did not know to read Tamil. So, the actor & writer were in a fix until they came to know of this unique feature in Azhagi. Azhagi did all the conversion for them in no time and they were a happy lot.


• Many of Azhagi's users (incl. myself, as an user) have their relatives/friends/grand-children who know to speak Tamil very well but do not know to read Tamil. For them also, reverse transliteration comes in very handy, for the same reasons as cited above. For instance, suppose you have a beautiful poem typed out in Tamil but the friend to whom you wish to email this poem does not know to read Tamil, though he is very interested in your poems. In such cases, you can very well use the 'reverse transliterator' to get back the English phonetic equivalent and send it across to him/her.

Kindly read this section ("How to avail AAW?") section FULLY. Clear-cut instructions are present therein as to how to obtain the download link for AAW from me. Once you install AAW in your system, you can avail RT easily, as it is one of the several modules of AAW.

Please share your feelings of joy, gratitude and appreciation, uninhibitedly

As I keep saying repeatedly, Azhagi is God's Own App. So, the more you keep sharing your happiness (esp. effervescently, if you can, as written in detail here) on RT's features, the more Glory and Thanks to the Lord Almighty. Not anything you say appreciatively on RT goes to me, as I am a non-entity. All your feelings of joy, gratitude and appreciation reaches the Lord Almighty straight. That's the spirit in which I work with respect to Azhagi SatKarma. As Ever, All Glory and Thanks to the Lord Almighty only. For Ever. I am an utter non-entity.

So, my most humble request is that before trying to find out any bugs in RT and report the same to me, kindly share with me FIRST as to what you feel about AAW's various modules (DT, AT and RT, etc.) and their features.

That's to say, as such, you need not even try out AAW, initially. After going through the web page links carrying the features of AAW's various modules, just let me know heartily first, as to what you feel about the various modules (DT, AT, RT, etc.) and their features. That's what I welcome foremost, as the very first thing, from any user. Because, even if there are errors in any of the modules, they would anyway get corrected sooner or later.

What is important for me (from any user), as one's initial feedback, upon getting to know and use a new module/feature of AAW, is your hearty feelings. Features overview of RT

• As such, it will be all self-explanatory, when you start using RT. Anyway, when time permits, I will try to place a few points here.


• One thing alone now. By seeing 'Android', 'Azharuddin', etc. in the screenshot, do not assume that all such Tamil words will get converted in English in a natural manner like this. Straightforward conversions like 'Android', 'Azharuddin', etc. gives you an indication of what RT is capable of, if I get the time to enhance it to the levels I am aspiring for. Otherwise, such direct conversions are met only to a limited extent in RT now.


• The 'X' modifier and 'alternate mappings' aspect of DT, along with the AT and RT modules (and a few more) were ready in 2019 Jan or so itself, as part of Azhagi+ 10.46 (the supposedly next version of Azhagi+). But then, I just could not release Azhagi+ 10.46 at all after testing out all the various modules I had added in it. Happy that a way was shown by the Lord Almighty, at last, to release the modules already done (as part of the upcoming Azhagi+ 10.46), through AAW, one by one.


• Well, in light of the above info, you can very well realise that more modules will be added 🙂 to AAW in times to come, in addition to the DT, AT and RT modules which have got added in Nov 2022.

A SAGA of LOVE

• If I look back at the journey undertaken by this so-called-body with Azhagi SatKarma so far, all-in-all, I see it as a SAGA OF LOVE only.
