This font is a "custom" Unicode Tamil font which has been created based on the requirement of aiyaa thiru. A. Ahamed Meerasa for his altruistic work (tamil28.com).

This font enables Meerasa aiyaa (aged 76 years!!!!, as of July 2025) to explain his noble 'Tamil Characters Reform system' easily to anybody.

So, under no circumstances, this font shall be misconstrued by any entity to think/mean/convey that it is a modification of the Tamil characters specified in the official Unicode encoding system for Tamil (as found in https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0B80.pdf, as of 13-July-2025).

The primary idea behind this "custom" Unicode Tamil font is that it will help existing Tamil texts (in existing Unicode Tamil fonts) to be seen in this custom Unicode font instantly, by just selecting the existing Unicode Tamil text (in a suitable application) and changing the font name to this custom font's name, thus helping Meerasa aiyaa immensely in his endeavour to explain and take forward his exalted work. That is all. Of course, this font will also help Meerasa aiyaa (and others who are interested) to type and check out Tamil text in the newly devised 'Tamil characters scheme' (Tamil28) by aiyaa.

I pray and trust that all my loving brothers/sisters understand the above clearly and fully so that they look at this font always from the viewpoint of the underlying noble purpose for which this font has been made.

Please be informed that this font contains newly created Tamil ligatures in the PUA (U+E69A to U+E6A6) for 'ஃப்', ஃப, ஃபா, ஃபி, ஃபீ, ஃபு, ஃபூ, ஃபெ, ஃபே, ஃபை, ஃபொ, ஃபோ, ஃபௌ. The English letter 'F' has been adapted for this purpose. Obviously, the aforesaid newly created ligatures are not present in the standard Unicode and are provided in this font only to meet the requirement of Meerasa sir, to assist in his Tamil28 noble work.

NOTE: This font is a derivate of 'Tscu_SaiIndira' free font (a BiLingual Dual-Encoded font) which is, as such, nothing but 'SaiIndira' font extended by me to work as a Unicode font too (and thus Dual-Encoded).

And, 'SaiIndira font' is Azhagi applications' primary font and it has been available for free download at freefonts.php for the past so many years. Obviously, 'Tscu_SaiIndira' free font also has been available for free download at freefonts.php for the past so many years.

Meerasa sir's passion, grit and determination

I personally admire Meerasa aiyaa's determination, grit and perseverance in taking forward his noble and altruistic work. Even at the age of 76, his passion for his work is total and tremendous. And, I am thankful to his affectionate prayers for me.

Technicalities

When it comes to solving puzzles, some people take their time and keep working at it (when the puzzle is quite hard) until the puzzle is solved. Some people straightaway see the solution and exclaim "Oh, its easy only" and move on. Similar to that, if somebody tries to create a Unicode font on their own for characters in the Tamil28 scheme, they may find it extremely hard until they finally complete creating it fully. But, some may look into the font rules inside the font and exclaim "Oh its easy only". Looking into the Tamil28 font, expert fontographists may also perhaps feel that its easy only but then I was/am not an expert fontographist. So, I did not understand head or tail of how to go about creating a Unicode font for Tamil28 scheme.

Honestly, at one point, I thought it is impossible to solve this puzzle of making a Unicode font for Tamil28 scheme. But, with GOD, everything is Possible. Hence, as with the other free apps of Azhagi, God only did this font also, entirely. If only someone was sitting beside me all through the day on 10th July 2025, they would have realised that it was indeed HE who developed this font on that day. But now, only I know how this font got created by GOD, giving me ideas, step by step by step by step by step, sets of characters by sets of characters (esp. when I had to take rest now and then because of a slight exacerbation of uveitis in my right eye). So, As Ever, All Glory and Thanks to the Lord Almighty Only, Forever.

Adapting this font to create your own new font

If you are creating any new fonts learning from the ideas present in this font, please do "heartily" and "prominently" mention about "azhagi.com" in the 'Description' field of your fonts and in the download pages of your fonts. And, kindly please spread the news of Azhagi Free Apps^^ (and all software## of their kind) to as many as possible in as many ways as possible (with my request in spread.php as basis) so that more and more of the society get benefited by using Azhagi Free Apps and Free Fonts. The font available for download in tamil28.com

The Tamil28 font available for download presently (as on 10-Jan-2026) in Tamil28.com is a somewhat modified version (with respect to the name alone, as such) of the font I created for meeerasa sir. In other words, the font I created was appearing as 'Tamil28DotCom' in the fonts list of various applications whereas the font available in tamil28.com will appear as just "Tamil28" in the fonts list of all applications. This is the only change, as informed by meerasa sir to me in Jan 2026. By myself, I am yet to get time to look in detail into the modified font to see whether any other changes have occurred inadvertently.
