Background behind this noble project

• Firstly, ns informed me that he does not have the intention to have a web page by himself where his fonts are available for free download with his contact info. I pleaded him so so so much to have one such web page by himself because already I am running out of time at all times, with the amount of work the Lord Almighty has enlisted to me (its like a never-ending ocean). I am working against time, so to say. But then, ns was not agreeing. He was not willing to host a web page of his own, in the free 'Google Sites' even.


• So, I told ns that if 'I only' have to provide the download for his fonts, then 'Okay, I shall go ahead with it' but then ns should make sure his fonts had detailed description and clear-cut info in the 'description fields of the fonts' about the name of the author and his contact info (along with other usual details like version number, date of creation, etc.) so that users can directly contact ns. But, ns absolutely said 'no' to the fonts containing any personal info of himself inside them. He said he can only just release his free fonts, primarily with a name for his fonts. That's all.


• So, I thought about a generic name and the name "God's Own Font" as the one primary name for ns' fonts occurred in my mind. When I told that to ns, to my utter Divine surprise, ns told that that is exactly the internal name he had given to the fonts he has made so far (and not yet released to the public). I had Divine goosebumps more than once. So, both of us decided (by GOD's WILL) that we shall go ahead with that name. The kind of nomenclature thought about for the same is here.


• NS confirmed to me that he has absolutely no desire for his name to be known. Absolutely no desire. In other words, ns has NIL desire that his name shall be known. But then, one thing needed to be understood by ns. If users need changes or improvements in the fonts or need some fonts made to user's specific requirements, they would necessarily need to contact ns only and thus they will definitely get to know ns. NS understood that point (since such a situation is only an expected one and quite unavoidable). He understood that what best can be done by me is only not to mention ns's name here in this page. That's the best I can do.


• So, with regard to the above, ns informed me in the 2nd week of Dec 2023 that whichever users have 'new font creation' requirements based on their specific needs OR any queries related to any aspect of ns' fonts, they shall write to me (viswanathan) first and then I shall write back to the user on how to contact ns.
  
  Important Update:
  On 1-April-2024, ns informed me that one can contact him directly over email by writing to [email protected] - quite happy that sir took this initiative.
  

Nomenclature

• "As of now", I just thought of the following way of naming the fonts' FILE names.


• God's Own Font - for Tamil - Lights1 - T1 (vn, dt)
  God's Own Font - for Tamil - Swaras1 - T2 (vn, dt)
  God's Own Font - for Tamil - Hands1 - T3 (vn, dt)
  
  and so on and so on, for the various other languages too, if ever ns goes on to make fonts for languages other than Tamil and English too.


• In the above nomenclature, 'T1', 'T2', etc. denote the total count of the fonts (leading to a million, at some point of destined time in the future), 'vn' is the version number (e.g. 1.0) and 'dt' is the date of release (e.g. 16-Dec-2023). 'Lights' and 'Swaras' give a general idea about the style or purpose (or any other primary aspect) of the font. The number suffixed to the 'purpose indicator' tells the font count under a particular category. For instance, in 'Hands1', the '1' indicates that under the 'Hands' category, it is the first font.


• The above info - generic font name, language name, purpose indicator with count number, total count number, version number and date shall be present inside the font too, in the font's details area. This was proposed by me to ns and he was in agreement with it.

Font Million

• As of now (Dec 2023), there are no '1 million' fonts to download from this page. Nor am I indicating that one million fonts will be provided in future in this page. I wish to make this point very clear to anybody reading this page. This page is all about NS's offering of totally free fonts to this society, at whatever pace he could provide them. These aforesaid free fonts, as and when they get finalized, I intend to host them in this web page for download, since ns is not willing to have a webpage of his own (providing his fonts for free download therein). That's all to it.


• So then, what is the 'Font Million' all about? Well, 'Font Million' is just a fillip or catalyst word for anyone to keep dreaming the same and thus sending positive waves in the cosmos, for it to become a reality - one day or other - at some Divinely Destined time&date in future - for not only Tamil but for every language.


• All languages are ours, our mother tongue (எல்லா மொழியும் நம் மொழி, நம் தாய் மொழி - ella mozhiyum nam mozhi, nam thaai mozhi). That's the spirit in which I look at languages and think about them. As written in my inno.php page, without languages, where are we? People often write here and there "Can you think of a world without xyz1, without xyz2, etc.", to highlight the indescribable immense signifiance of xyz1, xyz2, etc. To those utterances, they can add this also - "Can you think of a world without languages?".


• Actually, the ceo of a startup company wrote to me some 3 years back (in 2020) that he dreams a lot that there should be a million fonts of very many different styles in Tamil. That came to my mind when I was thinking about ns' free fonts contribution to the society. That's all to it.


• In reality, 'million' is just a word. The final count of fonts can go beyond a million too, to whatever count the Divine has willed. Its all GOD's WILL, finally.

Writing one's way to a million

• It suddenly occurred to me, as I was drafting this page's contents, that 'a million' Tamil fonts may be, after all, easily achievable. Because, ns told me once that if user-wellwishers can share their handwritten letters (for ALL Tamil letters, in order), then he would be able to create a font for that handwriting. So, if one million users can come forward to share their handwritten letters, then 'one million' distinct fonts are possibe, since each one's handwriting is distinct&unique, in one way or other. So, not only as a dream, but practically also, it IS possible to create '1 million' fonts, which are totally distinct and unique. YESSSS...


• So, all that a user-wellwisher may need to do is to write down ALL the Tamil letters in a sheet of paper (quite legibly, preferably in thick ink), scan that sheet of paper clearly and send it to ns. So, if user-wellwishers do greatly "wish" for a million fonts to happen, they can make it happen. Is it not? So, its all in your "hands". உங்க கைலதான் இருக்கு. :):) 🙂


• Actually, some artists have the capability to draw all the Tamil letters in one same particular style. They can also share the digital copies of such artistic representation of the characters to NS so that he can create stylish fonts holding such aesthetic Tamil and/or English characters.


• As such, any fontographist can contribute to the count of 1 million free fonts, by creating their own FREE fonts (based on individuals' handwritings OR otherwise) and hosting them in their own web pages. So, when I am talking about a 'million fonts', I am not keeping NS alone in my mind. The more the fontographists contributing to this effect, the easier and the faster the reach to '1 million fonts'.
  
  
• Now again, as written earlier, 'million' is just a word. The final count of fonts can go beyond a million too, to whatever count the Divine has willed. Its all GOD's WILL, finally.

All fonts made from scratch

• At one point of time, while conversing with NS, I told him "Sir, I know you, your noble heart and your sincere efforts in creating all your (unreleased)fonts so far. But still, since I dont know much about font-making, I am not sure whether by coincidence, one or more of your fonts' styles will match exactly with a commercial entity's font. I am quite wary of such situations whereby one or other commercial entities report to me that one or more of your fonts are of the same style as theirs.". Hearing that, after some deliberations, NS told me "Okay sir, since you have such fears, I will make all of the fonts (to be hosted by me in this page for download) from scratch itself.". Now that NS has given me that assurance that all fonts (to be provided by me in this page for download) will be made from scratch itself, the possibility of a font of NS's to match exactly with the width, height and style of one or more commercial entities' font's characters is almost near impossible. Despite this, if some commercial entity feels^^ that any one of NS's fonts is matching exactly with their font's width, height, style, etc. (and thus jeopordizing their sales [or any other business parameters]), then I request that commercial entity to kindly let me know the same with sufficient basis. I shall share the same with ns. Thanks.
  
  (^^) An individual fontographist will never feel so, I believe, after reading in this page about the "extremely" large-hearted and noble background in which NS is making all the fonts; seeing the name of the fonts as 'God's Own Fonts' itself; and, no personal info of the author inside the fonts. Having said this, I sincerely believe that even a commercial entity would not feel so since they are also ultimately made of individuals and every individual has a spark of divinity in him/her. And that spark would help them stay away from such feelings and instead appreciate and thank a noble project of this kind which is so so so immense in its significance and impact, I believe.

DOWNLOADS Info

• As of today (17-Dec-2023), there is 1 font available for download, here, in this web page.


• As more fonts get finalized, I shall host them also here, one by one, for free download.


• And, as and when I host the fonts, please download them only afer reading this web page "fully" and only if you feel you have absolutely no hesitancy in going ahead downloading the fonts.


• The count of fonts provided for download in this page, in times to come, will obviously be dependent on the pace at which NS is able to create his fonts from scratch.


• Anyway, what is primarily noteworthy for me in all this is not the counting of NS's fonts but the bounty of NS's heart. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat a heart! Throbbing and pulsating ever - to give, give, give, ..., ... - to the society - freely forever!

How to Contact NS?

• Please note that NS will be able to respond to your queries at his own pace only because he has his own daily personal works to attend to, amidst creating fonts. Your complete understanding and cooperation in this regard is very much requested.


• If you have need for 'any new font to be created according to your own specific requirements', then, I very humbly request you to respect NS's time doubly more. Because, creating a new font to one's specific requirements would generally be a more time-consuming affair than answering one's general queries. So, it will be "entirely" NS's prerogative to decide the time frame to meet your requirements. That means, if your needs are urgent, then you may always contact a commercial entity (individual or otherwise) who may be able to meet your requirements in your desired timeframe.


• Like me, NS is also like your own brother. His time is also extremely important as mine. So, my utmost humble request to those who have need for one or more fonts with specific requirements is to think of contacting NS only if you need such fonts for non-commercial, selfless purposes; not for your own commercial interests. Because, I sincerely pray to God for NS's time to be utilised for creating as many free fonts as he can, for brothers/sisters who use his free fonts for non-commercial, altruistic purposes only.

Final and Important Note-1

• At the absolute level, I had/have absolutely no problems if ns' fonts did/does not have his name and contact info. But then, at the worldly level, only if the fonts had the contact info of ns inside them, that would enable users to get their queries answered (by contacting ns, the fonts' author). And, that would ease me up too to a great extent since users would be contacting ns directly, for any of their needs. They would not have the need to contact me at all. But, ns was very clear in his thoughts that the fonts shall not have his name and contact info. So, this being the case, a page like this (the very page you are reading now) was the only way I could think of, wherein I can provide ns's fonts for free download.


• Actually if ns had been hosting his fonts in his own web page, nothing like it. My time need not have been spent in talking to ns, writing to ns now and then, conceptualising/creating/writing this page's contents, coordinating with him thereafter, etc. All that I needed to do would have been to spread the news of his web page in as many ways as possible. But then, as I always feel and write, its ALL God's WILL, ultimately, that the web page and setup has to be in this way only. At least as of now. Sairam..... So, I am happy with this present setup too. God-willing, this setup itself shall continue, absolutely hassle-free, in the future too. My sincere prayers for the same. Sairam.....

Final and Important Note-2

• I took the effort to explain the full background behind this noble project so that nobody at any point of time thinks that 'with NS unwilling/reluctant to mention his name', I took advantage(whatever) of the same, for benefits(whatever).


• For me, personally, in my own personal humble opinion/feeling, name or no-name, every beneficial product is God's only. A 'name' is just a mere identifier so that users are able to contact the named one to get help on a product. Otherwise, what is one's in this Cosmos? As Beloved Baba says: "The very physical frame which is so carefully nourished since birth rots and falls aside. What then shall we say of those who feel that these other things are 'mine'?"

  Seeing the screenshot for the above Tamil characters, I requested NS to send me the text of the whole Divine story. Hereunder is the whole Divine story. Sairam.....
