Man often imagines that he has accomplished many things. Presuming that all that he achieves is entirely due to his own efforts and abilities, he deludes himself and forges his own bonds. He forgets the truth that there is a higher power which is the driving force for action as well as is the author of the results thereof. This is the primary nature of bhrama (delusion). To get rid of this delusion and enable man to comprehend his inherent divine nature, the ancient sages taught a prayer. This prayer is the one that is addressed to Vinayaka. Who is Vinayaka? In the sloka beginning with the words, "Suklambaradharam Vishnum," the form of the deity is described. "Shuklambaradharam" means, one who is clad in white. "Vishnum" means, He is all-pervading. "Sasivarnam" means His complexion is grey like that of ash. "Chaturbhujam" means He has four arms. "Prasannavadanam" means, He always has a pleasing mien. "Sarvavighnopashantaye" means, for the removal of all obstacles, "Dhyayet" means, meditate (on Him). Vinayaka is the deity who removes all bad qualities, instils good qualities and confers peace on the devotee who meditates on Him. (Divine Discourse, Sep 12, 1991)

மனிதன் தான் பலவற்றைச் சாதித்து விட்டோம் என்ற கற்பனையில் அடிக்கடி மிதக்கிறான். தான் சாதிப்பவை அனைத்தும் முற்றிலுமாக தன் சொந்த முயற்சியாலும் திறமையாலும் தான் என்று கருதி, தன்னைத்தானே ஏமாற்றிக் கொண்டு, பந்தங்களை ஏற்படுத்திக் கொள்கிறான். ஒரு செயலுக்கான உந்து சக்தியாகவும் மற்றும் அதன் பலன்களுக்கான கர்த்தாவாகவும் கூட இருப்பது ஓர் உயரிய சக்தியே என்ற சத்தியத்தை அவன் மறந்து விடுகிறான். இதுவே பிரமையின் முதன்மையான இயல்பாகும். இந்தப் பிரமையிலிருந்து விடுபட்டு, மனிதன் தனது உள்ளார்ந்த தெய்வீக இயல்பை அறிந்துணர்வதற்கு, பண்டைய ரிஷிகள் ஒரு ஸ்லோகத்தை போதித்தனர். இது விநாயகருக்கான ஸ்லோகமாகும். ‘சுக்லாம்பரதரம் விஷ்ணும்’ என்று தொடங்கும் இந்த ஸ்லோகம் விநாயகரின் திருவுருவை வர்ணிக்கிறது. ‘சுக்லாம்பரதரம்’ என்றால் வெண்ணிற ஆடை தரித்தவர், ‘விஷ்ணும்’ என்றால் எங்கும் நிறைந்தவர், ‘சசிவர்ணம்’ என்றால் சாம்பல் நிறத்தவர், ‘சதுர்புஜம்’ என்றால் நான்கு கரங்களை உடையவர், ‘ப்ரசன்னவதனம்’ என்றால் எப்போதும் இன்முகம் கொண்டவர். ‘ஸர்வ விக்னோபஸாந்தயே’ என்றால் அனைத்து தடைகளும் நீங்குவதற்கு, ‘த்யாயேத்’ என்றால் அவரைத் தியானம் செய்யுங்கள் என்று பொருள். விநாயகர், தன்னைத் தியானிக்கும் பக்தனுக்கு எல்லா கெட்ட குணங்களையும் நீக்கி, நல்ல குணங்களைக் கொடுத்து, அமைதியை அருளும் தெய்வமாவார்.
