See that the words you speak are sacred. “You cannot always oblige, but you can always speak obligingly.” Try to speak sweetly and softly. I have told you many times, “Talk less, work more.” The one who talks excessively cannot work. The one who works will not talk. What is the reason for you not remembering all that you read? It is excessive talk. By talking less, your memory power will increase. Not merely this, your Atmic power will also improve. Whatever you hear, try to recapitulate, then put into practice. Listening, recapitulating, and practising (Shravanam, mananam, nidhidhyasanam) are very essential. Shravanam can be compared to cooking in the kitchen. Mananam can be compared to bringing food to the dining hall and serving it. Nidhidhyasanam can be compared to the eating process. When all these three are unified, you will have health and happiness. So, if you want to lead a life of contentment, recapitulate and practice whatever you have studied! (Divine Discourse Sep 11, 1998)

நீங்கள் பேசும் வார்த்தைகள் புனிதமானவையாக இருக்குமாறு பார்த்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். “நீங்கள் எப்போதுமே உதவ முடியாமல் போகலாம், ஆனால் நீங்கள் எப்போதும் இதமாகப் பேசலாமே.” இனிமையாகவும் இதமாகவும் பேச முயற்சி செய்யுங்கள். “பேச்சைக் குறைத்து உழைப்பைப் பெருக்குங்கள்” என்று நான் உங்களிடம் பலமுறை சொல்லியிருக்கிறேன். அதிகமாகப் பேசுபவன் உழைக்க மாட்டான்; உழைப்பவன் பேசமாட்டான். படித்ததெல்லாம் ஞாபகம் வராமல் இருப்பதற்கு என்ன காரணம்? அளவுக்கு மீறிய பேச்சுதான். குறைவாகப் பேசினால் உங்களுடைய ஞாபக சக்தி அதிகரிக்கும். இது மட்டுமின்றி, உங்கள் ஆத்ம சக்தியும் மேம்படும். நீங்கள் எதைக் கேட்டாலும், அதனை நன்கு மனனம் செய்ய முயற்சித்து, பின்னர் நடைமுறைப்படுத்துங்கள். கேட்பது, மனனம் செய்வது, கடைப்பிடிப்பது - அதாவது சிரவணம், மனனம், நிதித்யாசனம் ஆகியவை மிகவும் அவசியம். ‘சிரவண’த்தை சமையலறையில் செய்யும் சமையலுக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம். ‘மனனம்’ என்பது சாப்பாட்டு அறைக்கு உணவு கொண்டு வந்து பரிமாறுவதற்கு ஒப்பிடலாம். ‘நிதித்யாசன’த்தை உண்ணும் செயல்முறைக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம். இவை மூன்றும் ஒன்றுபட்டால் உங்களுக்கு ஆரோக்கியமும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் உண்டாகும். எனவே, நீங்கள் மனநிறைவுடன் வாழ விரும்பினால், நீங்கள் படித்ததை மனனம் செய்து கடைப்பிடியுங்கள்!
