Man alone has the chance to liberate himself from the wheel of birth and death, through the most pleasant means of serving God. But, as a result of ignorance or what is worse, perversity, he lets the opportunity slip from his hands, suffers grief and pain, fear and anxiety, ad infinitum. By escaping from the clutches of fascination exercised by material objects and physical pleasures, man can succeed in his efforts to liberate himself. He has travelled long enough on the wrong road; it's time now to turn back and move steadily towards the goal. The love that he cultivated for men and things must be sublimated into pure, divine worship. Then it gets transmuted as Bhakti (devotion). Convince yourself that the Lord is in you, as the charioteer, holding reins of the five horses (senses) and giving you constant counsel, as He did when Arjuna prayed to Him to lead and guide. Then, it becomes easy for you to convince yourself that the self-same charioteer is leading and guiding all other men and all beings. (Divine Discourse, Jul 31,1967)

மனிதனுக்கு மட்டுமே, இறைவனுக்கு சேவை செய்தல் எனும் மிக இனிமையான முறையின் மூலம், பிறப்பு இறப்பு எனும் சுழற்சியிலிருந்து தன்னை விடுவித்துக் கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது. ஆனால், அறியாமையின் விளைவாக அல்லது அதைவிட மோசமான வக்கிரபுத்தியினால், அவன் அந்த வாய்ப்பை கை நழுவவிட்டு, துக்கம், வேதனை, பயம், பதட்டம் ஆகியவற்றால் முடிவே இல்லாமல் அவதிப்படுகிறான். பொருட்கள் மற்றும் உடல் இன்பங்களின் கவர்ச்சிப் பிடியில் இருந்து தப்புவதன் மூலம் மனிதன் தன்னை விடுவித்துக் கொள்வதற்கான முயற்சிகளில் வெற்றி பெற முடியும். அவன் தவறான பாதையில் நீண்ட காலம் பயணித்து விட்டான்; பின்திரும்பி இலக்கை நோக்கி சீராக செல்ல வேண்டிய நேரம் இது. மனிதர்கள் மற்றும் பொருள்கள் மீது அவன் வளர்த்துக் கொண்ட அன்பு, தூய, தெய்வீக வழிபாடாக மேன்மைப்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். பின்னர் அதுவே பக்தியாக மாறிவிடும். தன்னை வழிநடத்திச் செல்லுமாறு அர்ஜுனன் வேண்டியபோது செய்ததைப் போல, இறைவன் உங்களுள் சாரதியாக இருந்து, ஐம்புலன்கள் எனும் குதிரைகளின் கடிவாளத்தைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு உங்களுக்கு தொடர்ந்து அறிவுறுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்பதில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருங்கள். பிறகு, அதே சாரதிதான் மற்ற மனிதர்களையும், அனைத்து உயிரினங்களையும் வழிநடத்திச் செல்கிறார் என்பதை நீங்கள் நம்புவது உங்களுக்கு எளிதாகிவிடும்.
