The sublime significance of divine wisdom can be grasped by one or communicated to another only when the pure mind sheds its revealing light. Inside a room kept scrupulously clean, no snake, scorpion or poison-bearing insect will enter - they will be present only in dark and dirty places. Similarly sacred wisdom cannot enter dark and dirty hearts. Instead, poisonous breeds like anger will find those hearts to be congenial resorts. You cannot wash a lump of coal with soap and water. Nor will washing it in milk help. The only way is to put it in fire. Fire will turn coal into a heap of white ash. Similarly, only gaining awareness of the Atma (Atmajnana) — in other words, knowledge of Brahman (Brahma-vidya) — will destroy the darkness of ignorance and the dirt of desire. Darkness can be ended only with the help of light. Darkness cannot be overwhelmed by attacking it with more darkness. Spiritual wisdom provides the inner illumination needed to destroy the inner darkness. -Vidya Vahini, Ch 2

பரிசுத்தமான மனம் தனது ஒளியைப் பொழியும் போது தான்,தெய்வீக ஞானத்தின் விழுமிய முக்கியத்துவத்தை ஒருவர் புரிந்து கொள்ளவோ அல்லது மற்றவருக்கு எடுத்து விளக்கிச் சொல்லவோ முடியும். ஒரு துல்லிய பரிசுத்தமாக வைக்கப் பட்டு இருக்கும் அறைக்குள் ஒரு பாம்போ, தேளோ அல்லது விஷப் பூச்சிகளோ நுழைய முடியாது; அவை இருட்டான மற்றும் அசுத்தமான இடங்களில் மட்டுமே இருக்கும். அதைப் போலவே, புனிதமான ஞானம் இருட்டான, அசுத்தமான இதயங்களில் நுழைய முடியாது. அதற்கு பதிலாக, கோபம் போன்ற விஷமயமானவை அந்த இதயங்களை சௌகரியமான தங்கும் இடங்களாகக் கொண்டிருக்கும். ஒரு நிலக்கரிக் கட்டியை நீங்கள் தண்ணீர் மற்றும் சோப்பால் கழுவ முடியாது. அதை பாலில் கழுவுவதும் கூட பலன் தராது. நெருப்பில் அதை இடுவதே ஒரே வழி. நெருப்பு அந்தக் கரிக்கட்டியை வெள்ளையான சாம்பல் குவியலாக ஆக்கி விடும். அதைப் போலவே, ஆத்ம ஞானத்தின் விழிப்புணர்வைப் பெறுவது மட்டுமே- அதாவது பரப்ரம்மத்தை அறிந்து கொள்வதே (ப்ரம்ம வித்யா), அறியாமை எனும் இருளையும், ஆசை எனும் அழுக்கையும் அழிக்க முடியும். இருட்டை, ஒளியின் உதவியால் மட்டுமே அழிக்க முடியும். இருட்டை, அதை விட அதிக இருட்டால் தாக்குவதால் மூழ்கடிக்க முடியாது. ஆன்மிக ஞானம், அக இருளை அழிப்பதற்குத் தேவையான ஆத்ம ஜோதியை அளிக்கிறது.
