Non-phonetic keyboard layouts

·      To change mode to Tamil Typewriter or TamilNet99 keyboard layouts, start Azhagi and click 'Preferences -> Change Keyboard Layout' to choose the preferred layout. You can also right click on the Azhagi tray icon and then move up the menu items to reach 'Typing Mode' and then select  the preferred layout. Clicking on the buttons 'Tamil Typewriter' or 'Tamilnet99' in Azhagi's opening (non-unicode editor) screen will also help you accomplish the same.

·      If you wish to type in Unicode in Tamilnet99 mode, I would suggest you to use Azhagi+ (AzhagiPlus) instead of Azhagi. All keystroke sequences for TamilNet99 keyboard layout have been incorporated in Azhagi+. For more details, please see http://azhagi.com/multi-np.html

·      Note: The English text area (ETA) is only for typing in phonetic (transliteration) mode. Hence, you cannot type in ETA after selecting 'Tamil Typewriter' or 'Tamilnet99' mode.

Important Note:

·      'Tscii' encoding does not contain the characters assigned for A, S, D, Z, X, C, V, B in TamilNet99 specifications. Hence, those mappings have not been depicted above. Unicode encoding does contain the characters assigned for A, S, D, Z, X, C, V, B however. Hence, if you type in Unicode, the corresponding characters (as per Tamilnet99 specifications) WILL get displayed. For more details, please see http://azhagi.com/multi-np.html without fail.

·      In WinXP, though 'Latha' is a Unicode font, it still does not hold the characters assigned for A, S, D, Z, X, C, V, B in TamilNet99 specifications. Hence, when you try to type these specific characters, you will still get boxes only. That is not the case in Win Vista, Windows 7 and above. The specified characters WILL get displayed properly since the 'Latha' font of these operating systems does hold the specified characters. For more details, please see http://azhagi.com/multi-np.html without fail.
