The heart’s blemishes must be washed by a moral life and by doing one’s duty. Time may come when one becomes tired and weak, then, one should pray thus: “Lord, things have gone beyond my capacity. I feel further effort is too great a strain. Give me strength, O Lord!” At first, God stands at a distance, watching one’s efforts, like the teacher who stands apart when the student writes answers to questions. Then, when one sheds attachment to sensual pleasures and takes to good deeds and selfless service, God comes encouragingly near! Like Sun-God (Surya-Narayana), He waits outside the closed door. Like the manservant who knows his master’s rights and his own limitations, He doesn’t announce His presence or bangs on the door but simply waits! And when the master opens the door just a little, Sun rushes in and promptly drives darkness out from within. When His help is requested, He is present by a person’s side, with hands extended to render assistance. What is wanted is only discrimination to pray to the Lord and the spiritual wisdom to remember Him! (Ch 11, Prema Vahini)

மனிதன் தன் தார்மீக வாழ்க்கையாலும், தனது கடமையை ஆற்றுவதாலும், இதயத்தின் களங்கங்களைக் கழுவி நீக்க வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு முயற்சிக்கும்போது நீங்கள் களைத்துப் போய், பலஹீனமாக ஆகிவிடும் நேரம் வரலாம்; அப்போது, ‘’பகவானே! விஷயங்கள் என் திறனுக்கு மீறிப் போய்விட்டன; இதற்கு மேலும் முயற்சி செய்வது எனக்கு பெரும் பாரமாகத் தோன்றுகிறது. எனக்கு சக்தி அளியுங்கள், ஸ்வாமி!’’ என்று பிரார்த்தனை செய்யுங்கள். மாணவர்கள் தேர்வு எழுதும்போது சற்று விலகி நிற்கும் ஆசிரியரைப் போல, ஆரம்பத்தில், ஒருவரது முயற்சிகளைக் கண்காணித்துக் கொண்டு இறைவன் சற்றுத் தொலைவில் நிற்பான். பின்னர், ஒருவர் புலனின்பங்களின் மீது உள்ள பற்றை விட்டுவிட்டு, நற்செயல்களையும், தன்னலமற்ற சேவையையும் மேற்கொள்ளும்போது, இறைவன் மெதுவாக அருகில் வருவான். சூரிய பகவானைப் போல மூடி இருக்கும் வாசலுக்கு வெளியே காத்திருப்பான். தன்னுடைய எஜமானரின் விருப்பங்களை அறிந்துகொண்டு, தான் இருப்பதை அறிவிக்காமலும், கதவை ஓங்கித் தட்டாமலும் காத்திருக்கும் வேலைக்காரனைப் போல, இறைவனும் வெளியே காத்திருப்பான். எஜமானர் கதவை கொஞ்சம் திறந்த உடனேயே, சூரியன் உள்ளே விரைந்து சென்று அங்கிருந்து இருளை விரட்டி அடிக்கிறான். அதைப் போலவே, இறைவனது உதவியை நாடும்போது, அவனும் உடனே தனது இரு கரங்களையும் நீட்டி உதவ பிரத்தியட்சம் ஆகிவிடுவான். எனவே உங்களுக்குத் தேவையானதெல்லாம், பிரார்த்திப்பதற்கான விவேகமும், அவனை நினைவுகூர்வதற்கான ஞானமும் மட்டுமே.
