Practice gives you the golden harvest of blissful experience. If you spend all your time erecting the fence, when are you going to raise the crop? When you spend all your time reading about agriculture and the excellent crops that can be got by using high-yielding strains of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, etc., but do not plough, sow, spray, dig or pull out the weeds, how can the granary be full? Reading, reciting, listening - these are not enough; practice is what is needed. If you are told Nachiketa did this or Svetaketu said that, of what avail is it? Unless you adopt them as your ideals, exemplars and guides, these scriptural texts will remain fairy tales! Understand their steadfastness and faith, their sense of values, and their uprightness. And yearn to acquire them. Then only can we have another Nachiketa and another Svetaketu. Or else, in the entire course of human history, there will be only one Nachiketa and one Svetaketu! ‘பயிற்சி’ உங்களுக்கு பேரானந்த அனுபவம் என்னும் பொன் விளைச்சலை அளிக்கிறது. முழு நேரத்தையும் வேலி அமைப்பதிலேயே செலவழித்தால், எப்போது பயிரை வளர்ப்பீர்கள்? விவசாயத்தைப் பற்றியும், அதிக மகசூல் தரும் விதைகள், உரங்கள், பூச்சிக்கொல்லிகள் போன்றவற்றின் மூலம் கிடைக்கும் சிறந்த பயிர்களைப் பற்றியும் படிப்பதற்கு உங்கள் நேரமனைத்தையும் செலவழித்து விட்டு, உழவோ, விதைக்கவோ, தெளிக்கவோ, தோண்டிக் களையெடுக்கவோ செய்யவில்லை என்றால் களஞ்சியம் எப்படி நிரம்பும்? படிப்பது, ஓதுவது, கேட்பது - இவை மட்டும் போதாது; பயிற்சி தேவை. நசிகேதன் இதைச் செய்தான், ஸ்வேதகேது அதைச் சொன்னான் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்வதால் என்ன பயன்? நீங்கள் அவர்களை உங்கள் இலட்சியங்களாகவும், முன்மாதிரிகளாகவும், வழிகாட்டிகளாகவும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதவரை, இந்த மறைநூல்கள் வெறும் கட்டுக்கதைகளாகவே இருக்கும்! அவர்களின் மனஉறுதி, நம்பிக்கை, விழுமிய உணர்வுகள், நேர்மை ஆகியவற்றைப் புரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். மேலும் அவற்றைப் பெறுவதற்கு ஏங்குங்கள். அதன் பின்னரே நமக்கு இன்னுமொரு நசிகேதனும், ஸ்வேதகேதுவும் கிடைப்பார்கள். இல்லையென்றால், மனித வரலாறு முழுவதிலும் ஒரேயொரு நசிகேதனும், ஒரேயொரு ஸ்வேதகேதுவும் மட்டுமே இருப்பார்கள்!
