You get a real urge and inspiration to serve others only when you get rid of identification with the body. When a man suffers from acute stomach pain, his eyes water. Why? Because the various organs - the eye, the stomach, etc. - are all parts of the same body. So too, when one man suffers, your eyes must shed tears and you must be urged to alleviate it! This will happen if you know that you and he are limbs of the self-same Divine Body. The idea of difference (bheda bhava), arises on account of ignorance of Truth. When people get angry, they gnash their teeth, but they take care not to bite the tongue, for the tongue is theirs! If by chance, the tongue is bit, they don’t knock the teeth out, for the teeth are theirs! So too, sick man, poor man, suffering man, illiterate man, wicked man, etc. are all limbs of the same body, of which we too are parts! The same current activates all. To realise this and to merge in that Unity is the purpose of one’s life! (Divine Discourse, Sep 26, 1965)

நீங்கள் உடல் பற்றை விட்டுவிடும் போதுதான், பிறருக்கு சேவை ஆற்றுவதற்கான உண்மையான உந்துதலும், உத்வேகமும் உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும். ஒருவன் கடுமையான வயிற்று வலியால் அவதிப்படும்போது, அவன் கண்கள் கண்ணீர் சிந்துகின்றன. ஏன்? ஏனெனில், கண், வயிறு போன்ற பல்வேறு உறுப்புகள் அனைத்தும் ஒரே உடலின் அங்கங்கள். அதுபோலவே, ஒருவன் துன்பப்படும்போது உங்களுடைய கண்கள் கண்ணீர் சிந்த வேண்டும், அவனுடைய துன்பத்தைக் குறைக்க நீங்கள் உந்தப்பட வேண்டும். நீங்களும் அவரும் ஒரே தெய்வீக உடலின் அங்கங்களே என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிந்தால் இது சாத்தியமாகும். வேற்றுமை உணர்வு (பேத பாவம்) சத்தியத்தை அறியாததன் காரணமாக எழுகிறது. மனிதர்கள் கோபம் வந்தால் பற்களை நறநறவென்று கடிக்கின்றனர், ஆனால் நாக்கைக் கடிக்காமல் பார்த்துக்கொள்கிறார்கள், ஏனென்றால் நாக்கு அவர்களுடையது! ஒருவேளை, நாக்கை கடித்துவிட்டால், அதற்காக அவர்கள் பற்களை உடைத்தெறிவதில்லை, ஏனெனில் பற்களும் அவர்களுடையதே! அதுபோல, நாமும் ஒரே உடலின் அங்கங்களாக விளங்குவதைப் போன்றே, நோயுற்றவன், ஏழை, துன்பப்படுபவன், படிக்காதவன், பொல்லாதவன் முதலிய அனைவரும் அவ்வுடலின் உறுப்புகள் தான். ஒரே உயிராற்றல்தான் அனைத்தையும் இயக்குகிறது. இதை உணர்ந்து, அந்த ஏகத்துவத்தில் இரண்டறக் கலப்பதே, ஒருவருடைய வாழ்க்கையின் குறிக்கோளாகும்!
