Some people, who have no experience and don’t put their words into practice, go about declaring that the way to peace is to keep the world at a distance. That’s no peace; it’s just the opposite. If the seed is taken far away from the tree, won’t it grow into a tree again? If you don’t want that, you must boil the seed or fry it over fire! So too, impulses and desires that germinate must be fried over the fire of discrimination (vichara); then, real peace will emerge. Instead, if one escapes from the responsibilities of life in society, peace cannot be enjoyed; it will never come! But, if desires (vasanas) are controlled and eliminated, there’s no need to run away. Being content with what one has, refusing to be worried by absence of things that one hasn’t, trying as far as possible to reduce and eliminate desires, passion and hatreds, strive to cultivate and systematically practice truth, dharma, love, and patience (sahana).(Prasanthi Vahini Ch 15)

எந்த அனுபவமும் இல்லாமல், தங்களுடைய சொற்களை நடைமுறையில் கடைப்பிடிக்காத சில மனிதர்கள், உலகை ஒரு தொலைவில் வைத்திருப்பதே சாந்திக்கான வழி என்று கூறிக் கொண்டு திரிகிறார்கள். அது சாந்திக்கான வழி அல்ல; அது அதற்கு நேர் எதிரானது! மரத்திலிருந்து விதையை தூர எடுத்துச் சென்றுவிடுவதனால் மட்டும் அது மறுபடியும் ஒரு மரமாக முளைக்காதா என்ன? நீங்கள் அதை விரும்பவில்லை என்றால், நீங்கள் விதையை வேக வைக்க வேண்டும் அல்லது நெருப்பில் வறுக்க வேண்டும்! அதைப் போலவே, தலைதூக்கும் உந்துதல்கள் மற்றும் ஆசைகளை பகுத்தறிவு (விசாரம்) எனும் நெருப்பில் வறுக்க வேண்டும்; பின்னர் உண்மையான சாந்தி வெளிப்படும். மாறாக, சமுதாயத்தில் உள்ள ஒருவர் வாழ்க்கையின் பொறுப்புகளிலிருந்து தப்பி ஓடிவிடுவதால், சாந்தியை அனுபவிக்க முடியாது; அது ஒருபோதும் வராது! ஆனால், ஆசைகளை (வாசனைகள்) கட்டுப்படுத்தி நீக்கிவிட்டால், ஓடி ஒளியவேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. தன்னிடம் இருப்பதைக் கொண்டு திருப்தி அடைந்து, தன்னிடம் இல்லாத பொருட்களுக்காக கவலைப்பட மறுத்து, முடிந்த அளவு ஆசை, காமம் மற்றும் வெறுப்பைக் குறைத்து, அவற்றை நீக்க முயற்சித்து, சத்யம், தர்மம், ப்ரேமை மற்றும் பொறுமை (சஹனம்) ஆகியவற்றை வளர்த்துக் கொண்டு, முறையாக அவற்றைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கப் பாடுபடுங்கள்.(பிரசாந்தி வாஹினி,அத்தியாயம்-15)
