Azhagi's Assamese Transliteration Scheme - Modern Style
Assamese can be typed (vide transliteration) using Azhagi, following the English to Assamese transliteration scheme/rules (i.e. English-to-Assamese letter/character/key mappings) given below.

Font requirement
If the characters in this page are not visible in Assamese, then it means you do not have even one suitable Unicode Assamese font in your system. To download and install atleast one FREE Unicode Assamese font, kindly visit this page or see azhagi.com's unicodeff.html for links to many such pages.

Note
x, X and ` [character under '~' in English keyboards] are used as modifiers and/or splitters

  • Important note on "t, T, d, D, th, Th, dh, Dh"
    In Azhagi's Unicode Editor, if you click on 'Tools->Options' and select the 'classic' style (which is the default style, as such), then the mappings for "t, T, d, D, th, Th, dh, Dh" change (To view the key-mappings table for the same, please visit multi.html and click on 'classic style' link given under your chosen language). In Azhagi+, you can effect this same setting by clicking 'Tools->Options->Other Languages'.

  • Important note on 'ch'
    In Azhagi's Unicode Editor, if you click on 'Tools->Options' and tick the 'ch, Ch' checkbox, then 'ch' would also take the same mapping as that of 'c'.

  • Various other important options
    Click here. Herein, you can learn more on the above options too.

  • Consonants with nukta (dot)
    ড় = dxa, ঢ় = Dxa, য় = yxa

    Shri and Avagraha
    শ্রি = shri, ঽ = Sx

    Conjuncts (Consonant Clusters)
    The consonant conjuncts get formed automatically as you keep typing your words.

    Numerals
    = 1x, ২ = 2x, ৩ = 3x, ৪ = 4x, ৫ = 5x
    ৬ = 6x, ৭ = 7x, ৮ = 8x, ৯ = 9x, ০ = 0x

    x, ` and X modifiers
  • x when applied after certain Assamese letters modifies them. For e.g.
    kruxpaa = কৃপা, Rux = ৠ, ঽ = ऽ (avagraha), ১ = १ (Assamese numeral 1)
  • Whenever x does not take the role of a modifier, it just prints 'ক্ষ'. For e.g.
    laxman = লক্ষ্মন

  • ` when applied before certain Assamese consonants modifies them. For e.g.
    `g = ঙ, `j = ঞ, j`j = জ্ঞ
  • ` when applied between certain Assamese consonants (like k`h, g`h, t`h, d`h, etc.) helps them to form their natural conjuncts. For e.g.
    bakkiMghaam = বক্কিংঘাম whereas bakkiMg`haam = বক্কিংগ্হাম

  • X can be applied between Assamese consonants to help form their half-consonants. For e.g.
    rakshaa = ৰক্ষা whereas rakXshaa = ৰক্‍শা

  • XX can be applied between Assamese consonants to help form consonants with halant symbol. For e.g.
    baakyaa = বাক্যা whereas baakXXyaa = বাক্‌যা
  • X or XX can be applied between certain Assamese vowels (say 'ai' or 'ou') to help them get separated into their component vowels. For e.g.
    priyaiMdiyaa = প্ৰিযৈংডীযা whereas priyaXiMdiyaa = প্রিয‍ইংডিযা
